Summary/Objective


Wind Turbine Site O&M Technicians operate and maintain the assigned Wind Turbine site by optimizing wind generation, availability and performance through established procedures with the highest regard for health, safety and environment compliance. Wind Turbine O&M technicians carry out tasks such as cleaning, organizing, assembly, service, and/or repairs to wind turbine generators and related equipment and facilities. They are required to climb vertically at least 300 feet to work at heights. Certified Wind Turbine Technicians must maintain all certifications required for the position. While the Wind Turbine O&M technician is assigned to a specific site or multiple sites within local area, occasional travel may be required (10% - 20%).

Essential Functions

Employees in the Wind Turbine Site O&M Technician position should expect to:

  • Work with site leadership to execute all contractual obligations and activities set forth with the customers on a daily basis, which can include any portion of the electrical, mechanical or balance-of-plant equipment on site.

  • Troubleshoot and identify root cause of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical malfunctions.

  • Perform repairs or replacements of mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical components to correct malfunctions.

  • Conduct maintenance of equipment (Cleaning, greasing, lubrication, etc.).

  • Lead and/or assist with other daily work activities, related to all areas of site operations, as directed by manager, with minimal supervision.

  • Coordinate with engineering support team when in need of additional troubleshooting/ diagnostic assistance.

  • Complete and maintain required company and client documentation and records, using computer-based service reporting tools and procedures.

  • Clean and organize tools, equipment, and work area including sweeping, mopping, wiping oil, grease, solvent spills.

  • Operate a motor vehicle safely and legally per the Employee Handbook and insurance requirements.

  • Maintain required training certifications for position held. These include at a minimum: OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, CPR/AED - First Aid, Working at Heights.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum one year of related electrical or mechanical experience in any industry.

  • Ability and willingness to climb a wind turbine vertically at least 300 feet.

  • Ability and willingness to do the following:

  • climb a wind turbine vertically at least 300 feet.

  • lift and move equipment as needed (up to 50 pounds).

  • work an alternate schedule with overtime, weekends and holidays

  • possess and maintain a drivers license that companies with Company policy, as listed below.

  • follow specific verbal and written instructions to perform wind turbine generator (WTG) and associated equipment assembly, repair, and maintenance.

  • be exposed to ambient temperatures while working outdoors.

  • work in an indoor or outdoor environment in adverse weather conditions with blowing pollen, dust, and grasses.

  • take proactive initiative and work without direct supervision.

  • read and understand electrical schematic drawings.

  • read and interpret technical manuals, procedures and regulations.

  • write reports, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.

  • maintain a weight between 120 and 280 pounds, including clothing and boots, for OSHA safety compliance.

Desired/Preferred Characteristics

  • Previous Wind Turbine installation, repair and/or diagnostic experience.

  • Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree or Technical Certification in Wind Energy or related field.

  • Tower Rescue/Tractel and SRK 11 Certifications.

  • Strong teamwork and proactive communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to take initiative and work without direct supervision.

  • Familiarity with various hand, power and hydraulic tools.

  • Experience with heavy equipment required for site maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
