We are currently working alongside a growing, fast paced and dynamic company who designs, constructs, and installs community solar farms, in their search for a VP of Construction.

This role will be part of the Exec Leadership team so you will play a vital part in decision making across the business.

 

The Role

The Vice President of Construction is responsible for leading the execution EPC Contracting and Construction Management teams. The VP of Construction will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to drive the competitive advantage of the Construction team. EPC costs represent 70% project costs and driving down costs while improving production and storage integration is core to our client’s success. This is a unique opportunity to drive innovations and best-in-class processes through an exciting multi-state solar pipeline. The VP of Construction will report to the Chief Operating Officer.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Drive a culture of innovation that advances best-in-class EPC costs and maximizes plant production and minimizes energy cost.

Oversee full construction cycle for distributed generation solar PV and energy storage projects.

Effectively integrate plant design, cost estimating, and technology selection to optimize EPC costs and project performance; work closely with the Development team to ensure project development decisions integrate and drive down EPC costs

Provide leadership and guidance for the performance engineering and preliminary engineering of development projects in the pipeline

Take leadership on value creation through utilization of best in class solar and storage technologies and strategic procurement

Develop and implement strategy for EPC contracting, including assessing new contract structures to balance risk and efficiently structure EPC contracts, coordinating closing with the Structured Finance team to ensure finance ability

Act as the company's primary stakeholder for all project related vendors

Oversees vendor evaluation, recruiting and onboarding

Evaluation, execution and advanced negotiation of contracts that enable the company to move projects through the pipeline

Leads construction agenda with an emphasis on budgets, schedules and bidding strategies; responsible for all construction project oversight

Champion full cycle review of projects and internal process improvement and coordination, including constructability assessments, design improvements, "Readiness Approval Date" decisions and lessons learned from EPC contracts and field implementation

Collaborate closely with Development and Structured Finance teams to drive profitability of Development P&L and provide steady, consistent messaging of EPC inputs and drivers to ensure the seamless transition of projects through this life cycle and on to O&M

As a key member of the company Lead Team provide strategic insight to facilitate challenging decision making for the Executive Team and the Board.

 

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

10+ years of progressive Construction experience with power generation business, including solar experience.

A passion for innovating in the design, procurement, and construction of solar community projects.

Well versed in high level technical project management initiatives such as contractor evaluation and selection, financials, schedules, estimates, contracts constructability reviews and project phasing.

Demonstrated experience and expertise in current and continuing evolution of solar and storage technologies.

Demonstrated success in implementing value creating strategic procurement of major materials for both storage and solar projects.

Existing relationships with key solar contractors and vendors that can be brought to bear.

Solid understanding of commercial aspects of the EPC process and warranty management tactics.

Solid experience in contract negotiations and P&L management
