Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Operations, the National Director of Construction is responsible for the performance and execution of all construction activities including direct oversight of a team of Project Managers, establishment of departmental and project budgets, and hands-on involvement with process and system improvements to a rapidly growing company with national operations. The ability to work independently and as a team leader is critical, as well as the mind set to deliver projects at the highest level of cost, schedule and quality excellence, consistent with Safari’s status at the top of the industry.

Departmental Leadership
Overall responsibility for the successful planning and completion of solar projects
Provide daily leadership to a staff of Project Managers responsible for planning and execution of solar projects
Work closely to prioritize key activities on 100+ projects in various stages from design through closeout
Ensure on-time project delivery and excellent status communication and reporting to internal parties and customers
Coordinate with other department heads and senior management to ensure projects are properly designed, planned, and completed
Work with Project Development, Engineering, and Preconstruction to create schedules, budgets, and contract reviews during the project planning process
Participate in the development and implementation of safety and quality plans and procedures
Identify and qualify regional construction partners
Be a key problem solver to issues affecting the rapid and high-quality delivery of projects
Project Management
Oversee project budgets and financial controls, project management systems and processes
Successful implementation of Health, Safety and Security program plans, practices, and objectivesOversee Permitting and Utility Interconnection efforts including all internal and third-party processesManage contractors and supplier in accordance with project contractsManage quality control, commissioning and closeout of projectsChange management between customers, Safari, and installation contractors.
Provide regular cost and schedule updates for review with the SVP of Operations
Support client meetings and deliverables where necessary
Coordinate and manage external utility work related to projects
Management/Strategy
Create, manage and track operational improvements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Drive standardization, sustainable cost reduction, safety, and employee training
Work with SVP of Operations to establish, measure and improve schedules and cycle times Identify solutions and strategies that improve operational performance
Prioritize Operations Department initiatives to ensure internal/external stakeholders needs are met
Manage employee issues; performance reviews, recruiting, mentoring and growth
Candidate Qualifications
Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. Engineering, Construction Management or similar focus
Minimum 10 years of progressive construction leadership experience
Ability to serve as a Responsible Managing Employee (RME) on behalf of Safari.
Experience within a leading renewable energy, general contracting, real estate development or commercial construction firm
Strong history of delivering construction projects on time and on budget
Expert knowledge of project planning, Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling and budging processes and tools
Expert knowledge of Solar Project engineering, construction, commissioning, best practices, and critical milestones.
Demonstrated ability to leverage a staff of Project Managers as well as directly manage and oversee numerous construction sites simultaneously
Proven ability to review engineering designs, scopes of work, commissioning plans
Strong organizational and scheduling skills to manage the activities of internal and external resources
Project level financial responsibility, Budget creation and management
Expert knowledge of contracting process, commercial terms, subcontractor relationship management, contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and risk mitigation
Exhibited success with process development and implementation, change management and growth
Ability to interface smoothly at senior management levels internally and externally
Ability to travel 50% of time or more to project locations which are ongoing regionally
